This event will include:
 

  • An insight into the life of a young woman who is living with a chronic illness, and the additional challenges she faces having a disability, whilst Black!
  • A talk on the acute educational inequalities experienced by Black children and young people with 'hidden' disabilities.
  • A presentation from a student Occupational Therapist on their experiences of Higher Education and how being a Black professional and leader will positively impact the care and support needs of Black patients and families.

    We welcome anyone who is interested in attending this event, as we expect that there will be elements that will resonate with many of you on a topic that is so important, but often overlooked or side-lined.  We particularly would like to encourage people who are working or training to work in the health and caring professions and sector.

Specialist NMH Tutor/Mentor, University of Surrey, Guildford

The Disability and Neurodiversity team at the University of Surrey has a part-time vacancy for a qualified and experienced person who can deliver Study Skills Tuition and/or Specialist Mentoring support to students on a regular one-to-one basis. In a typical 7.2-hour day you would meet with five students, with the remaining time being used for follow up administration daily, and attending a Non Medical Helper (NMH) team meeting weekly. 

The vacancy is for two days per week during term-time (0.29 FTE).

Our team of assessors support these organisations to develop environments where neurodiversity can flourish, supporting individuals who have Dyslexia, Dyspraxia (DCD), Dyscalculia, Autism Spectrum Conditions and ADHD. 

As part of our next stage of growth, Lexxic is excited to have a partnership between psychologists and SpLD assessors, we believe a first in the field.  We are recruiting APC holders to deliver diagnostic assessments for dyslexia, DCD (Dyspraxia) and ADHD, and possibly dyscalculia (dependent on experience with this). We are flexible in terms of associate/employed work and part-time/full-time work. We also offer ongoing support and training on assessments, so please apply if interested.

  

The ideal candidate will have:

-A current Assessment Practising Certificate, preferably with at least one renewal
-Experience in conducting specialist diagnostic assessments in line with SASC guidance with knowledge of appropriate recommendations for examination adjustments in Higher Education.  An advantage would be to have knowledge of current JCQ regulations for examination access arrangements
-Confidence, experience and a passion for supporting individuals who are neurodiverse
-An understanding of how to support and improve the skills of neurodiverse individuals
-A keen desire to extend their knowledge and widen their experience
-Excellent ‘people’ skills; qualities of empathy and patience
-Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills

Specialist Study and Strategy Skills Tutor, Loughborough University

Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity is looking for Specialist Study Skills and Strategy Support tutor to provide 1:1 support to students with a range of neurodiverse profiles including dyslexia, dyspraxia, AD(H)D and ASC.

The successful applicant will provide individualised 1:1 holistic teaching support tailored to enhance and develop the student’s academic achievements whilst developing lifelong skills and strategies, based on the student’s individual prolife.

They will be an excellent communicator with the ability to work independently whilst also contributing to the professional discourse within the Study Skills and Strategy Support team.  They will have full membership of one of the DSA-QAG’s stated professional bodies and a commitment to the Social Model of disability.

The service currently operates a hybrid support model and therefore we welcome applications from candidates interested in home working.
