Calibre Audio is participating in the Big Give Christmas Challenge

Submitted by jvalentine1 on

Calibre Audio is participating in The Big Give Christmas Challenge this year (the biggest match funding event in the UK which raises millions of pounds for charity).

They are aiming to raise £12,000 to add 48 new titles to their collection, and have created a digital advent calendar with a brilliant new adult and young member audiobook for each day of advent.

For many Calibre Audio members, the service is the only way that they can access books so the fundraising campaign is a fantastic opportunity to add great new titles to the collection and keep reading open to all.

Dr.Philip MacMillian, an Educational Psychologist, is looking to recruit children (and adults) from 9 years old who have a diagnosis of dyslexia or who are not making good progress in reading with their current level of support. The lessons, which are delivered online in a one-to-one setting using the free version of Vsee Messenger or similar and take approximately 20 minutes.  The recorded lesson is emailed out for further practice at home. Lessons are delivered usually on a Saturday/ Sunday or by prior arrangement at other times.  There is no charge, but it is required that parent and child attend an initial online interview.  Philip will pre-test and post-test each participant. A report on each learner’s progress will be provided at programme end.  Adults and Homeschoolers welcome.

Professional Tutoring Partnership - News

Submitted by jtrisnan on

Children’s education has been placed at the heart of the Government’s COVID recovery plan and we now know that schools will be opening from 8th March. Weekly tuition and the National TutoringProgramme remains a key commitment and is one of five approaches the Government is backing to address gaps in learning for children and young people.

Patoss, the British Dyslexia Association, Helen Arkell Dyslexia Association, Dyslexia Action and RealGroup joined together to form the Professional Tutoring Partnership in order to provide disadvantaged children with specialist teaching at a time when they most need help to get back on track with learning. The partners were certain that this was an opportunity that spld and dyslexia tutors would want to take to make a difference together.

A big thank you to those tutors who have joined the Professional Tutoring Partnership. The next few weeks are important for us. We have the backing of the National Tutoring Programme to provide face to face and online tuition in schools across the country. We are working hard to arrange tuition to start during March and as soon as possible once schools open. We would value the support of specialistteachers and members in promoting our work to schools. Please find our flyer for more details, we welcome enquiries (tutorpartnership.com).
