PG Courses Application Process

This is a summary of application process for Rose funded places to study the Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy.

  1. It is expected that demand for course places will exceed supply. Although applications will be dealt with on a 'first come first served' basis, final offers of places will be made to applicants with a conditional offer where all documentation (including the return of the signed Rose funding form) is completed on a first completed first offer basis.
  2. Full course details can be accessed here and there is a link to the application form in the 'How to Apply' section of the course details. Information regarding funding eligibility can be accessed here
FAQs about funding eligibility and application process can be accessed here.
  3. Initially you should complete the application form and send it to us. This can be by fax, post or (if scanned first) by email.  Once you apply, your application will be acknowledged by email.  PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT US TO CHECK THE PROGRESS OF YOUR APPLICATION.
  4. Dyslexia Action will make you a conditional offer of a place if you fulfil the University of York admissions criteria. This offer will be for the next available course.
  5. Dyslexia Action will then send you a funding eligibility form for you to send to be completed by your Headteacher or sponsor if you are given a conditional offer. It must be returned signed to Dyslexia Action as quickly as possible.
  6. You will not receive a final offer of a place until your application dossier is complete and the form, to determine eligibility for funding, returned.
  7. Your place will be funded if you also meet those criteria and sufficient funded places are available. Dyslexia Action will determine your eligibility for a funded place. A recent Government ruling (April 2010) has meant that funding is limited to £2400 only. The applicant will be expected to pay the balance of the course fee, i.e. £225. This charge will go towards the accommodation and subsistence costs of the compulsory residential Induction School and the provision of the Dyslexia Institute Learning Programme (DILP). The cost of the mandatory course materials is also NOT covered by the government funding. This is in the region of £500.
  8. Next you will receive a final offer. Sign this and return to us to secure your place if you wish to study with us. Once this form has been returned to us:
  • If you are eligible for funding we will confirm your funded place and invoice you for £225.
  • If you are not eligible for a funded place you will have received an invoice in your final offer paperwork and you must arrange payment with your acceptance of this offer.

Finally, when all this is completed, we look forward to welcoming you on the course.  The deadline for the October 2010 course is to be confirmed but you are advised to apply as soon possible.
