Individual Unit SpLD Specialist Teacher Extension Course - Working with Syllables – Using Syllable Patterns to support the reading and spelling of longer words.

Working with Syllables – Using Syllable Patterns to support the reading and spelling of longer words.

This online course is suitable for qualified specialist SpLD teachers who have been previously trained to use a multisensory literacy programme and who are looking to refresh and update their teaching practice.

Working With Syllables is a Specialist SpLD Practitioner CPD extension course that has been developed to extend the knowledge-base and skills of specialist practitioners in important areas of practice.

Please note that this course does not train teachers as dyslexia/SpLD specialists or involve a teaching practicum.  This training is covered in the Dyslexia Action Professional Certificate in Structured Teaching Intervention (at Masters Level 7) and in the Dyslexia Action Certificate in Strategic Teaching Support for Dyslexia and Literacy at Level 5.  See www.dyslexiaaction.org.uk

The Working With Syllables course covers the sub-skills necessary to ensure learners develop confidence in word attack strategies. It demonstrates methods to introduce the concept of ‘long’ and ‘short’ vowel sounds to learners and how to link this to the decoding of words of more than one syllable.  Some common syllable patterns are covered to give practitioners the resources they need to promote the reading and spelling of a wide range of longer words.
