DESCRIPTION:Why numeracy skills?\n \n \n This Unit examines th
e processes involved in mathematical thinking and
how they link to aspects of memory and attention.
The difficulties that learners with dyslexia and
co-occurring difficulties can have with numeracy a
re explained.  This unit explores theory\, offers
some practical ideas and provides the practitioner
with the fresh perspective necessary to effective
ly use structured\, cumulative\, multisensory teac
hing to promote numeracy development in learners w
here it is stalled or significantly delayed.\n \n
 \n \n What can I expect from the course?\n \n \n O
 n completion\, participants will be able to:\n \n
\n \n \n Identify the cognitive attributes necess
ary for the development of numeracy skills\n Iden
tify the difficulties that learners with dyslexia
may experience in developing numeracy skills.\n D
iscuss the importance of relational understanding
in mathematical development\n Identify the diffic
ulties that learners with dyscalculia may experien
ce when developing numeracy skills\n Be able to a
 pply the principles of structured\, cumulative\, s
 equential\, multi-sensory learning when teaching n
 umeracy.\n
