If you are:

  • a current holder of a specialist dyslexia qualification (Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent) gained within the last 5 years
  • entitled to and holding Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA)

you are eligible for an Assessment Practising Certificate.

If you have AMBDA or equivalent but the qualification is more than 5 years old we will need to see evidence of additional qualifications or good practice. Please include with your application:

  • A current Curriculum Vitae
  • A full DIAGNOSTIC assessment report written in the last 5 years and following DfE guidelines. Click here to view the guidelines.  For updated information on recommended assessment tests please click here.

For all routes to achieving your Assessment Practising Certificate you need to become a member of the Dyslexia Guild and maintain the membership during the period for which your APC is valid. If you are not already a member of the Dyslexia Guild you will be asked to join when you apply for your APC. This is because an APC can only be issued by approved membership organisations.

If you wish to apply for an Assessment Practising Certificate through this route, please note the following:

  • If you are not already a member, please click here to join the Dyslexia Guild.
  • Please read the Code of Practice before submitting your application form.
  • The application fee for the APC for Routes 1 or 3 is £90, payable on application. This includes the £15 fee for registration on the SASC website.
  • Please complete the Route 1 Application Form and send with your fee of £90.
  • Please send copies of supporting documents with the Application Form.

If your application is successful, the APC will be valid for three years, at which time you will be able to apply for renewal.
