Multisensory Maths for Teachers: A course for teachers, tutors and teaching assistants

This very practical course will equip teachers and teaching assistants with the skills to teach and support dyslexic learners with Maths.
The course is delivered by specialist tutors.
- Improved understanding of teaching Maths to dyslexic learners
- Gain skills to meet the needs of dyslexic learners in the stages of learning Maths
- Gain skills to meet the needs of dyslexic learners in the development of:
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication and Division
- Measurements
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages - Contribute to school improvement by raising Maths standards in schools and colleges
Who is the course for
The course will benefit teachers, tutors and teaching assistants working across the age ranges.
Course content and structure
The course consists of five units:
- Maths and dyslexia awareness including the stages of learning
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication and Division
- Measurements
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Unit 1 (Maths and Dyslexia Awareness) will be available as an e-learning unit ahead of the 2-day attendance course which will consist of the other four practical units.
Each of the 2 attendance sessions will last for six hours. A typical session will include interactive learning sessions or lectures, workshops and discussion.
Course entry requirements
Open entry but:
- Applicants must be able to work at a standard equivalent to Level 3 (A-level) and should currently be working with learners who are struggling with Maths
- Currently employed, or working in a voluntary capacity, in a school, college or other learning environment for at least one day per week (or will be doing so by the time the course starts)
- Reference from current or most recent employer

September - November 2010 - e-learning followed by 2 days at Dyslexia Action, Park House, Wick Road, EGHAM, Surrey. TW20 0HH
Held in various locations around the country (subject to demand), or we can run a tailored course in your own school/organisation/local authority for a fixed fee for up to 15 students. We will be happy to provide the course, lecturer, materials. accreditation and quality assurance. Price on application.

'Day 1' will be accessible from mid September to the end of October 2010 via e-learning on our Moodle Virtual Learning Environment. You MUST complete this BEFORE Day 2 (the first of the attendance days)
