Screening for Dyslexia in Adults

A 12- hour, 2-day course to introduce the trainee to dyslexia and screening for dyslexia. The course includes training to use the DAST Screening Test.
The training will enable delegates to have a broad overview of dyslexia, understand the difference between assessment and screening, know about some different screening tests and have experience of using one test.
Who is the course for
A variety of audiences including FE teachers, trainers, Skills for Life teachers, learning providers, Job Centre Plus, Connexions, employers, HR staff, prison and probation officers and carers.
Course content and structure
The programme will include sessions on:
- What is dyslexia?
- Pattern of difficulties
- How to identify dyslexia
- The difference between screening and assessment
- Hands-on experience of screening for dyslexia - using DAST screening
The course will combine presentations and practical activities. Each course can accommodate up to 15 delegates. Delegates will be expected to complete a short activity to demonstrate their learning and competence gained on the course
The course can be increased by a further half day to include fine tuning screening techniques and the writing of a screening report.

Open access, (but please note there are restrictions as to who can buy and use one of the screening tools demonstrated).

Courses can be run at your college/place of work and can be arranged and designed to meet your specific training requirements. (This would need to be discussed at your nearest Dyslexia Action Centre).
