Advice, Screening and Assessment
Many teachers find it useful to know what goes on at screening and assessment at specialist organisations like Dyslexia Action, and how this can complement the support on offer at school. In some cases this helps teachers understand the processes parents may be going through with their children. Some teachers approach us to help to raise awareness of dyslexia in their schools or to find out about group screening.
Where necessary and relevant, most schools arrange for children to be assessed by the SENCo or by an educational psychologist.
Some anxious parents may also contact their local Dyslexia Action centre to arrange an independent assessment with a qualified assessor. All our centres offer an assessment service which is delivered by a team of qualified assessors and consulting psychologists whose work is subject to a rigorous system of quality control. The professional conduct of all psychologists working with Dyslexia Action is regulated by the British Psychological Society.
Administrative staff at Dyslexia Action centres can give advice and information regarding the help available.
